Purslane Restaurant, Edinburgh – fine dining in a relaxed, informal, cosy atmosphere.
On a recent short trip to Edinburgh in June we had the pleasure of eating at Purslane Restaurant, located in trendy Stocksbridge.
This below-stairs gem of a restaurant is tiny, just 9 tables. On their website they describe their restaurant – “At Purslane we want to create a unique dining experience, `Casual fine dining` we like to call it.” – and we would definitely agree.
We booked in for Saturday lunch, and it was lovely – from the tasty canapes to the cheese board and coffee. We were particularly impressed by the quality of ingredients and the intense yet balanced flavours. The smoked haddock Kedgeree was the star and gets a special mention – no picture, too busy enjoying!
Friendly, informed staff and a small yet very well selected wine list (all available by the glass due to a bottle preservation system they have installed).
All in all a great find – fine dining without wallet bashing prices!
We look forward to a return visit.
Booking ahead is recommended.
