Arboleda Carmenere 2020
Chile / Aconcagua Valley
Andy's Tasting Notes
A brilliantly focused Carmenere. Gorgeously pure and aromatic with moreish black cherry fruit, roasted coffee, hoisin, roasted peppers, cinnamon and raspberry compote. Lovely length and persistence.
A real class act.
Aged for 14 months in French oak (25% new).
Both this wine, and the Arboleda Cabernet Sauvignon we stock, have an elegance, structure and freshness not always found in Chilean reds. There’s no lack of concentration and richness though.
Produced from their single vineyard site ‘Las Vertientes’, which was named after the freshwater springs found on the site.
Producer notes: “The Las Vertientes vineyard is located 37 km (23 mi) inland from the sea, in the Hijuelas locality. The cool coastal winds blow in from the sea refreshing the Mediterranean climate, allowing the red grapes to ripen slowly. The soils are formed over extrusive (volcanic) rocks and colluvial and alluvial deposits. Colluvium is identified on the slope and mostly in the piedmont area with a high percentage of clay, while the alluvial deposits on the gently rolling slopes and flat areas have a high percentage of stones and gravel beneath a layer of loam. This particular vineyard topography and geomorphology provide a wide range of soil textures, best suited to red varieties.”
Arboleda, which means a grove of trees, is a tribute to the more than 1,450 hectares (3,583 acres) of native forest that surround its sustainably managed vineyards.

Producer Info
Viña Arboleda was founded in 1999 by the Chilean vintner Eduardo Chadwick. The philosophy behind this project is to craft single-vineyard wines that reveal the purest expression of each unique terroir within its vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley.
Viña Arboleda is Eduardo Chadwick’s personal venture. He represents the fifth generation of Viña Errázuriz’s founding family and is also the owner of Seña, Chile’s first icon wine, initially born as a joint venture with the legendary Californian vintner Robert Mondavi. Eduardo’s vision for his Arboleda project is to make the most sustainable, pure and modern wines to showcase the world-class quality of the best terroirs in the Aconcagua Valley.
Viña Arboleda was one of the country’s first wineries to be certified under the Chile’s National Sustainability Code that guarantees environmentally friendly production, social responsibility towards the community and economic viability.
Arboleda is committed to conserving the biodiversity in the Aconcagua Valley, and as such, more than 1,450 hectares (3,583 acres) of native forest have been kept virgin to protect the natural corridors that constitute a true habitat of flora and fauna. Additionally, water is preserved in a reservoir that extends over 14 hectares (34.5 acres).
