Darling Cellars Black Granite Shiraz 2018
South Africa / Western Cape
Andy's Tasting Notes
Apart from being a great priced example, what makes this wine so attractive is its lovely balanced juicy fruit, excellent depth (at this price level) and a harmonious and joyous drinkability. There’s no heavy handed or jammy over the top flavours – just lots of plummy, red berried fruit, gentle spice and subtle herby overtones.
Price per bottle £8.90
Darling Cellars is situated on the cool west coast of South Africa between Malmesbury and Darling, approximately 1 hour’s drive from Cape Town and 15 kms from the coast line.
Their vineyards enjoy the coolness of the Darling Hills, just three miles from the roaring Atlantic on the west coast of South Africa, while others bask in sun in the flatter hinterland. 96% of the vineyards are un-irrigated bush vines so yields are very low and the quality proportionately high.
“This co-operative cellar turns out a dizzying array of wines, many of them at extremely pocket-friendly prices.” Sunday Times, SA
