El Circo Cariñena 2018, Grandes Vinos
Spain / Aragon
Andy's Tasting Notes
Old vine Carignan with a soft, mellow, medium bodied personality. This wine has an intense red colour with violet hues. Delicate aromas of raspberries, bramble, cherry jam and cracked red pepper. On the palate, you’ll find flavours of crushed cranberries and black olives. Crisp and refreshing acidity with a long and lingering finish.
The winery has numerous vineyards with different micro-climates and altitudes ranging from 320 to 850 metres above sea level. The continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers, is mitigated by the Cierzo, a cool dry wind which blows through the vineyards all year long, ensuring the grapes remain healthy. The majority of the Cariñena vines are dry farmed. Due to the altitude, age of vines and large diurnal variation, the wines have good intensity and ripeness while retaining their acidity and structure.
