Esk Valley Artisanal Collection Albariño 2021
New Zealand / Hawkes Bay
Andy's Tasting Notes
The 2020 vintage of this wine has been our bestselling version of this grape variety this year, and when I recently tasted the 2021 vintage I was delighted to find it even better than the 2020 vintage! Esk Valley thought so too, because they have upgraded it from their Estate range to their posher Artisanal Collection. This should have entailed a significant price hike but, what I can only put down to a communication breakdown somewhere in the company, the initial shipment was priced at the same level as the 2020 vintage!
So, fill your boots before it goes up to its full correct price (approx £17.95) when we need to re-stock from the next shipment.
Terrifically aromatic and bursting with peach fruit. The chalky minerality is superb. It quite easily puts many Spanish versions into the shade at this price point, with its rich yet precise and pristine flavour profile, minerality, together with depth and length of flavour.
We are pleased to offer this wine at this special price, rrp circa £14.00 – for the 2020 vintage
Price per bottle £14.00 £12.35
Esk Valley is a boutique winery, but it is unique in that many of the techniques used to craft its award-winning wines are dictated by the winery itself. The old concrete vats, the layout of the buildings, and the absence of modern technology mean the winemakers at Esk Valley have had to make wine in a simple, honest, hands-on way.
Situated in the north of New Zealand’s picturesque Hawkes Bay, at Bay View is the Esk Valley Estate winery. The winery sources fruit from Hawkes Bay, including the world-renowned Gimblett Gravels, and Marlborough, as both regions consistently produce grapes of an extremely high quality.
