Pagos del Galir Godello 2018, Virgen del Galir

Godello, together with Albarino and Verdejo, is the other grape variety in north west Spain’s Holy Trinity of white grapes. Texturally richer yet with a cleansing streak of slatey minerality. White peach, fennel, baked spiced apple and a hint of honey. Finishes dry and fresh with a long, lingering aftertaste.

Production notes – Grapes are from a selection of their vineyards in Entoma, Regueiron y O Serro. Soils in these high altitude vineyards are mostly slate. The 2018 harvest took place during the second fortnight of September. A dry summer provided a full maturation of the grape producing a fresh and aromatic harvest, with lower yields due to rains during the flowering. One of the best harvests in the last 10 years.

Founded in 2002, Virgen del Galir, a relative youngster, focuses on building the reputation for Godello and Menica in the premium Valdeorras appellation.
