Pagos del Galir Godello 2020, Virgen del Galir
Spain / Galica
Andy's Tasting Notes
Together with Albarino and Verdejo, Godello is the other grape variety in northwest Spain’s holy trinity of white grapes. Texturally richer yet with a cleansing streak of slatey minerality. White peach, fennel, baked spiced apple and a hint of honey. Finishes dry and fresh, with a long and lingering aftertaste.
Producer notes: Grapes used for Pagos del Galir Godello come from our premier cru A Malosa vineyard in the Village of Entoma.
The Virgen del Galir winery sources its grapes from its own 20 hectares of vineyards, at an altitude of over 600m. The premium grapes are sourced from terraces composed of chalk and decomposed granite soils, which gives the fruit complexity, minerality and elegance. The climate is continental with Atlantic influence and the annual precipitation is 700-1,000mm depending on the areas. Winter are very cold, summers very warm.
Founded in 2002, Virgen del Galir, a relative youngster, focuses on building the reputation for Godello and Menica in the premium Valdeorras appellation.
