Swoon! Superb refinement and complex nuances – very stylish Pinot Noir with fragrance, savoury structure and very attractive fruit intensity. A top producer who has really nailed this vintage perfectly.

Mount Edward’s winemaking approach is traditional, organically certified in both vineyard and winery – “Our winemaking is traditional in the sense that we use natural yeasts and minimal intervention. We believe that the less we do to a wine the better the result so our aim is no fining, filtration, aids, additives or intervention. Of course there is a human element to winemaking, and a definite understanding of science is needed, we get that! We just think that the less you interfere the better the result.“
Mount Edward – Maverick, revolutionary, genius, ingenious, insubordinate, dynamo, pioneer and avant-garde …….. these are just a few words that have been used to describe Duncan Forsyth, winemaker at Mount Edward wines. Duncan has worked with many of the region’s top estates as well as in Oregon, Germany and California. In late 2003 he teamed up with John Buchanan and they took on Mount Edward Winery in 2004.
The Central Otago climate and soils are unique with the parent rock being glacially derived schist. Most of the soils having been cultivated only a few times in the 100 years before the viticulturists arrived, and some not at all. The growing season is warm and dry with cool nights. It is a short season however, with a risk of frost early and late and they actively restrict crop levels managing the vine canopy to achieve balance and uniform ripeness regardless of variety.
