Andy's Tasting Notes
Gros Manseng – another grape variety to add to your list! In a world where there is an ocean of correct, yet boring and bland white wines along comes this totally unique and totally invigorating example!
Exotic, aromatic, refreshing and exuberant. Dry yet with an intriguing honey and jasmine character.
Added advantage is nice low-ish alcohol on this wine.
Thick-skinned and wild, Gros Manseng is relatively unknown outside its homeland in the Pyrenees. For years, it was held in lower regard than its similarly obscure parent, Petit Manseng, and was blended away anonymously.
However, because of its thick skin and small berry size, it can ripen and over-ripen whilst retaining its acidity and shunning the advances of botrytis, giving both dry and sweet wines that are well worth seeking out.
Production notes – “Bright and zingy Gros Manseng fermented to dryness into which we’ve blended a smaller proportion of late-harvested Gros Manseng, bringing with it a delightful fruitiness and exotic spice.”
Price per bottle £9.25
