Vidal Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir 2018, Vidal

New Zealand / Marlborough

Andy's Tasting Notes

A soothing and mellow Pinot Noir with an enticing fragrant and floral style. Cherry, raspberry, nutmeg, violet and truffle. Soft tannins add structure and balance.

A really pretty red with a friendly crowd pleasing personality.

This Pinot Noir from the 2018 vintage is a blend of premium vineyards in the in the southern Wairau Valley (78%) and Awatere Valley (22%) of Marlborough. The unique mesoclimates in these valleys, combined with an unwavering attention to detail in the vineyards, consistently produces fruit of the highest quality.

Vidal is a member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) and BioGro certified, meaning it is accredited to process grapes grown using organic principles.

Our Reserve wines are elegant and characterful with true regional identity. These wines are the perfect accompaniment to food and offer excellent fruit flavours due to the good quality vineyards and grapes from which they are sourced.” Vidal

Producer Info

“At Vidal we believe that great wine starts in the vineyard. We’re passionate about achieving a natural balance because we know that healthy vines working in harmony with living earth make the most delicious wine.” Ollie Powrie, Chief Viticulturist

The Vidal winery is situated on the original site in Hastings, Hawkes Bay, which was purchased by its founder Anthony Joseph Vidal back in 1905. Back then the site was a rural location, today though it is now in the heart of residential suburbia. Limitations on space and restricted operating times have meant a move to a new state-of-the art winemaking facility in the Gimblett Gravels.

Viticulture and winemaking are overseen by Ollie Powrie and Andrew Lebioda, both of whom have a wealth of experience working with the vineyards and grapes of New Zealand’s key regions.

Vidal is dedicated to environmentally friendly winemaking and sustainable winegrowing practices. This mindset allows Vidal to contribute to New Zealand’s “clean, green” image and increase quality assurance from vineyard through to the finished wine. Vidal was a founding member of the Living Wine group, a small group of wineries who gained ISO 14001 certification in 1998, having achieved a globally recognised standard in environmental management systems. The winery is a member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) and BioGro certified, meaning it is accredited to process grapes grown using organic principles.
