Villa Maria Single Vineyard Seddon Pinot Gris 2018
New Zealand / Marlborough
Andy's Tasting Notes
Although Villa Maria are famous for their large production good value Private Bin range, where they really excel is with their limited release Single Vineyard bottlings. This Seddon Vineyard Pinot Gris is truly top class and can be compared to top examples from Alsace. The bonus though is you would pay much more for quality Alsace versions.
Just about one of the most versatile white wines you could find – will compliment Oriental cuisine, spicy dishes, white/oily/smoked fish and most shellfish, creamy cheeses too.
Just off-dry, yet with perfectly balanced crisp acidity.
We are pleased to offer this at this special offer price. RRP is circa £18.95.
Winemaker notes – “The 2018 Single Vineyard Pinot Gris is solely sourced from our iconic Seddon vineyard, on the southern bank of the Awatere River. This Pinot Gris is a rich, textural, opulent wine with a creamy palate from spending extended time ageing on yeast lees. Aromas of fresh honeycomb intermingle with juicy summer peaches, the fleshy palate is framed by a soft but balanced acidity with an exotic, unctuous texture.”

It is not easy to tell your Dad that you are quitting a career in carpentry to try your hand at making wine. But in 1961, at the age of 21, that’s exactly what Sir George Fistonich did. He leased five acres of land from his father, planted one acre with grapes and started making wine under the name ‘Villa Maria’. Since those first cuttings took hold in the soil out in Mangere, near Auckland, Sir George has been determined to be at the cutting edge of quality winegrowing.
