Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2018
Argentina / Mendoza
Andy’s Tasting Notes
High quality, old vine Malbec of stunning purity and structure. Brilliant concentrated plum and cherry fruit and overtones of violet, wild herbs and flinty minerality. For all its richness there’s a lovely contrast of freshness and elegance. 100% Malbec from the calcareous soils of the Paraje Altamira. Definitely not smooth and easy drinking, but much better because it ain’t!
Cries out for any rich comfort food dishes! Decant 1 – 2 hours before serving.

93pts Wine Enthusiast “Compact aromas of black plum, cassis and blackberry are reduced due to fermentation and aging in concrete, but with airing this Malbec opens like fan. A pure and juicy palate gets deeper and more layered with time in the glass. Plum, wild berry and savory flavors of wild herbs and stewed tomato finish with laser-like focus.”

Producer Info
Some years before 1950, engineer Alberto ‘Tito’ Zuccardi arrived in Mendoza from Tucumán, the small province in northwest Argentina where his Italian grandparents had settled many years before. He began experimenting with new irrigation systems because, back then as is the case today, water management is strategic due to its scarcity. In 1963 he planted a vineyard in the Maipú region, aiming to show other neighbouring farmers how his irrigation system worked, not realising at the time that this would be the beginning of his life’s passion.
Today Bodega Zuccardi Valle de Uco is led by Sebastián Zuccardi. Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Alberto and his Father, José, Sebastián’s aim is to create wines of great purity, firmly rooted in the terroirs of the Uco Valley, in the shadow of the Andes Mountains.
Located in the Paraje Altamira, in the shadow of the Andes Mountains, the Zuccardi winery was designed to reflect the surrounding landscape. It was built as a tribute to the austere and solemn mountains that define the climate and the soils of the region. The construction is part of the landscape, made using materials sourced from the estate and the nearby Tunuyan River. It is composed of concrete from the outside to the inside, from the stone walls, oblique and imposing, to the concrete vats in which are the wines aged.
The Zuccardi family mission is to establish working policies which minimise the impact on the environment and which can contribute to the overall awareness of environmental issues in society today. They base all their decisions, for both production and distribution processes, on a respect for the soil, the air, the flora and fauna, and the whole community. They are focusing towards sustainable agriculture, co-existing with nature without damaging it. They keep a comprehensive waste recycling policy and they incorporate the use of alternative energy sources into the production systems.
